Steven Ketchens family and friends are uniting together to raise funds for his legal defense.
My Case was a Wobbler
My name is Steven Ketchens and my constitutional "5th Amendment" right was violated. As a result, my family has created this website on my behalf to reach out to others for support in the hopes for me to get a new and fair trial and be exonerated of a two life sentence, plus 40-years for a domestic offense, caught up in the "3 Strikes Law System". There are murderers who do not have the type of harsh sentence I have.
Although, it has been a long and difficult road for me and my family, we have not given up hope about my voice being heard and obtaining a fair trial, so that my life sentence can be overturned.
My trial attorney to whom represented me in my case had been suspended by the Bar Association for one year, in which I had no knowledge of at the time that he was attained. I had 13 witnesses that were willing to come forward in my defense, but my attorney only called 3 out of the thirteen to testify on my behalf. My jury contained an "all white Jury". Therefore, I was not given a fair trial.
The Wikipedia defines an All White Jury as follows: An all-white jury is an American political situation where a jury in a criminal trial or grand jury investigation is composed only of white people; often, the implication of invoking such a makeup is that the deliberations may not be fair and unbiased. Racial discrimination in jury selection has a long history in the United States.
For example, I was misrepresented as a gang banger and a thug. Several witnesses committed perjury on the witness stand and because of the distortion of the facts made in my case, it helped to convict me of this inhuman sentencing. I believe that if a person does the crime, he should do the time. However, in my case, the punishment was too severe. I was in the process of getting my life back on track. I was employed, attending church, and trying to keep my family together as one unit. One day, my ex-wife pulled a knife on me while we were having a disagreement and tried to stab me. In fear for my life, I restrained her in self defense and removed the weapon. Afterwards, she called my parole officer and I was arrested for domestic violence, although, she had no physical wounds nor injuries.
It is important for me to bring awareness to others about my case, so that this type of stiff sentencing does not continue to happen to someone else. I remain hopeful that I will get a new and fair trial. I can only speak about the facts regarding my case based on my own personal experience. I do strongly believe that there are other races of men and women who may have also been misrepresented and have experienced a similar situation like I have regarding the injustice within the American Judicial System. However, if we can all come together united, we can help fix the broken Judicial system, one case at a time.
